Bogus e-mails lead to identity theft [Fort Worth,TX]

It's doubtful that Best Buy needs you to submit your credit card information by e-mail to confirm a fraudulent transaction.

And your credit card probably has not been used to purchase child pornography.

E-mails with these bogus messages are designed to get you to reveal personal information, which leads to identity theft, Bedford police Sgt. Randy Gardner said in recent e-mails to residents.

"It's something we have to be very alert for," he said.

Such scams come into cities like Bedford and Keller from around the world. They are in the same vein as the Northeast Tarrant County mail thefts, in which thieves steal personal information from mailboxes.
